The Approach
This one-day training introduces the handpan as a musical instrument for contemplative practice rather than performance. Through a structured and progressive curriculum, participants develop the technical foundations required to play with confidence while exploring simple rhythmic, melodic, and meditative patterns suitable for yoga and meditation settings.
Throughout the program, equal importance is placed on technique, listening, musical sensitivity, and practical application, enabling participants to develop a calm and supportive musical presence, whether for your own practice or for holding space for others.
Teaching Methodology
The training follows a progressive, hands-on learning approach designed to make the handpan accessible to learners with or without prior musical experience.
Patterns are broken down into simple, achievable steps, allowing participants to build confidence through repetition, guided practice, and immediate application. Individual instruction is combined with group exercises to encourage both technical development and musical listening.
The emphasis is not on memorising songs, but on understanding musical patterns and developing the skills to play with fluency, confidence, and creativity.
What You Will Learn
By the end of the training, participants will have developed:
Fundamental handpan technique, including posture, touch, tone production and coordination.
A repertoire of meditative and repetitive patterns suitable for savasana and relaxation.
Essential rhythmic and melodic concepts for independent playing.
Confidence in maintaining a steady pulse and musical flow.
Practical approaches to accompanying yoga, meditation, and personal practice.
An understanding of how sound, silence, pacing, and dynamics contribute to a supportive atmosphere.
